Eligibility and Audition Information

To be eligible to perform in The Sound of Music, students must meet these criteria:
     1)  Audition for a panel of judges on August 27 or 29 (see below for signups and instructions - it's fun, easy, and good for you!)
     2)  Stewarts Creek Elementary Students (grades 2-5):
          - 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders must participate in the Choral Extravaganza Choir in order to audition for The Sound of Music
          - All 2nd graders can audition
     3)  Stewarts Creek Middle Students (grades 6-8):
          - SCMS Students must be a member of the SCMS Choir or Drama Program in order to audition for The Sound of Music
     4)  Stewarts Creek High Students (grades 9-12):
          - The entire student body is welcome to audition

What can I audition for?
     1)  SCHS students can be cast as adult principle roles (Maria, Captain, Rolf, Elsa, etc), the older von Trapp children, members of the Abbey (sisters, postulants, novices), and members of the ensemble (neighbors, soldiers, etc).
     2)  SCMS students can be cast as the von Trapp children, members of the Abbey (sisters, postulants, novices), and Abbey School Children and Members of the Vienna Children’s Choir.
     3)  SCE students can be cast as the von Trapp children and Abbey School Children and Members of the Vienna Children’s Choir.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
     1)  Read through the proposed calendar of events below.
     4)  Your audition will consist of:
          - Sing a 30 to 60-second cut from a song of your choice without accompaniment.  For high schoolers and experienced middle schoolers, please find a musical theater song that features the best part of your voice; ideally, you identify a character in The Sound of Music you are interested in and will choose a song that shares a similar style.  For less-experienced auditionees, you can sing Disney songs, Pop songs, musical theater songs, sacred songs, or even Happy Birthday!  We want to hear your voice - you choose a song that makes you happy!
          - You'll read 'sides,' or small excerpts from the show.  These will be available in the hallway about 30 minutes before you audition so students can review.  We want to hear how well you speak and project, and if you can take risks and make big choices about what the characters you're reading for are thinking and feeling.
