Updated Band Student Activity Statements Sent
Updated copies of the most recent SCHS Band Activity Statement was issued late Monday afternoon (01/22/2024). Please let us know if you see an issue with your statement and we will be more than happy to look into it for you.
 
SCHS Band Rehearsal and Performance Calendar - Q3 & Q4 with Band Camp Dates
Please click the link below to access you copy of the SCHS Band Rehearsal and Performance Calendar for quarter 3 and quarter 4. Additionally, band camp dates are also listed. As a general rule, the SCHS Band does not schedule any summer activities at the end of May through the first week of July. This is to allow families to schedule vacations and summer camps that are not in conflict with the SCHS Band Camp dates.
 
New this semester - Every band member will be required to fill out a calendar acknowledgement form, which is electronic and is linked to the PDF of the calendar (either direct by link or by scanning the QR code). This will be due to the band office by Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
 
If a band member has a conflict or is requesting an excused absence, there is another link on the calendar that will allow students to put in a request for an excused absence. This is a new form and is submitted electronically as well. Both band members and the parent/guardian (based on which email the band members submits for the parent/guardian) will receive a copy of the request, as well as an email that will either approve or deny the request. We ask that any conflicts or requests for excused absences be submitted to the band office by Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

We hope that everyone is enjoying the winter weather and enjoying some additional rest and relaxation. For band members, please do not forget that your chair placement music assessment will be coming up soon. We will know more about when upon our return to school. If you need the music and did not think to take it home, you can find it posted in Schoology in your respective band class.
 
UPDATE: Mid-State Honor Band January 18-20 - POSTPONED
We have just been informed by MTSBOA that the Mid-State Honor Band weekend of January 18-20 has been postponed. The snow make-up dates for Mid-State will take place on the following weekend of January 25-27, 2024. For those students who were selected to attend, please contact us via text if for some reason you cannot attend those dates.

Good Evening SCHS Band Members and Families,
 
We want to start by sending our best wishes for a happy new year. We are currently in the process of finalizing our performance and rehearsal calendar for the spring semester, sending out updated activity statements, and getting everything ready for what looks to be a most challenging and rewarding semester yet.
 
As we get our items finalized we will send them in separate emails this week. In the meantime we look forward to some great work with the band members and we hope to see you at our next performance.

10th Annual SCHS Band Concert - Thursday, December 14, 2023
The 10th Annual SCHS Band Christmas Concert will take place on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 7:00 PM. Doors to the theater will open at 6:45 PM. Admission is free and seating is open to all. 

 
SCHS Band Christmas Concert and Dress ASR's 
The Dress Rehearsal for the 10th Annual SCHS Band Christmas Concert will take place for the members of the freshmen concert band and symphonic band on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 3:45 PM until 5:30 PM. The Dress Rehearsal for the Wind Ensemble will take place on Wednesday, December 13, also from 3:45 PM - 5:30 PM.
 
For the Dress ASR - This is the term we use to delineate a rehearsal in which we will run the entire program. The students do not have to be dressed in concert attire for the Dress ASR. Every year we have at least one freshmen band member who likes to dress up for the Dress ASR.
 
Concert Attire
All new band members have received concert attire, or returning members have received replacements, so we ask that parents help by making sure the concert attire is neat and pressed for our concert. New band members wearing the concert gowns (or those who needed a replacement) can be picked up following the Dress ASR on Tuesday, December 12.
 
Band Class Fees and Statement Updates
We have heard from many parents who have expressed frustration at reading and deciphering the QuickBooks system of invoices, credits, and statements. It has been just as frustrating on our end. We are going back to the previous system that many parents seemed to like better with everything emailed out and in one place using our Microsoft Office Suite software and sending out activity statements through mail merge. We are in the process of exporting everything from QuickBooks and hope to get this resolved soon. We appreciate the flexibility. While the thought of going to a more professional platform seemed like the right decision at the time, it has done nothing but created more headaches. We will go back to what we know works. This will in no way affect the online payment system. Payments can still be taken online through the parent page of the band website (this will still be administered through QuickBooks).

9th and 10th Grade Mid-State/All-State Band Auditions
This Saturday, December 9, will mark the final week of auditions as our select 9th and 10th grade band members will compete for chair positions in the MTSBOA All-Mid-State Band and TMEA All-State Band. Auditions will take place at Antioch High School. Students have received their audition registration times and audition information packets (these are also posted in the band room). Please note that students must pass their prepared music barrier by performing for a director this week. Students who are not deemed prepared will not be permitted to attend the auditions on Saturday.
 
SCHS Band Christmas Concert and Dress ASR's Next Week
The SCHS Band's Annual Christmas Concert will take place next week. With that will be the Dress ASR's that will take place next week as well. For the Dress ASR - This is the term we use to delineate a rehearsal in which we will run the entire program. The students do not have to be dressed in concert attire for the Dress ASR. Every year we have at least one freshmen band member who likes to dress up for the Dress ASR.
 
Speaking of concert attire . . . All new band members have received concert attire, or returning members have received replacements, so we ask that parents help by making sure the concert attire is neat and pressed for our concert. 
 
The freshmen concert band and symphonic band will once again combine for the concert and their dress rehearsal will take place on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. They will not have a separate dress rehearsal as originally planned on the calendar.

Town of Smyrna Christmas Parade
The band members will have an ASR for the Town of Smyrna Christmas Parade this Thursday, from 3:45 PM until 5:30 PM. Students should dress warmly as the weather this week is quite colder than normal. The parade is this Sunday, December 3, 2023. Please see the gig sheet for more information below.

The Month of December
The month of December will be here before you know it. Please make sure to check the calendar for all events taking place in December. For concerts, the band is divided by band class and each class serves as a concert ensemble within the SCHS Band program. Each class will have a dress rehearsal before the Christmas Concert, so please make sure to plan accordingly.
