Second Annual NW Rutherford Middle School Mass Choir

Rutherford County students took their joy of choral singing to the next level.  A “mass,” of middle school students met at Stewarts Creek High School on Thursday, February 9 for an all-day rehearsal followed by a performance for a capacity crowd with over 540 people in attendance.

Nearly 200 middle school students from Blackman Middle, Stewarts Creek Middle, Thurman Francis Arts Academy, and Rock Spring Middle School met at SCHS for the all-day intensive rehearsal. The students learned four pieces for the performance, 3 of which were memorized and two were in Latin. The students worked with Dr. Brian Russell, choral director and chair of Fine Arts at Stewarts Creek High School, who conducted the concert.

"Today was a great day!" said Lainey Stroud, seventh grader at Blackman Middle School. "We had so much fun, met new people, and learned so much music in a short amount of time. I can't wait to come back next year!"
