On Saturday, March 4 2017, eight students from Stewarts Creek competed in the semi-final round of the Orpheus Vocal Competition, a national competition for classical voice held at MTSU. Students were judged by voice professors from MTSU and Belmont University and given a masterclass by these master teachers.
SCHS Junior Cheyenne Reames won FIRST PLACE for her performance of "Vergin tutto amor" by Durante and Junior Anna Vogler won SECOND PLACE for her performance of "Il mio bel fuoco" by Marcello. Both young ladies were invited to sing for the public concert on Sunday, March 5, performing for a different panel of judges from East Carolina University, Belmont University, and Nashville Opera.
"These students represented Stewarts Creek, their families, themselves, and our art with poise, grace, and professionalism," said Dr. Brian Russell, Choral Director and Chair of Fine Arts at Stewarts Creek. "I am proud of the dedication to excellence they shared with the local community and guests from around the country."
Both students received a cash prize for winning the competition and have already garnered interest from University music programs.
