SCHS Band: Your Monday Night Rundown (MNR) - Week of August 7, 2023

Good Evening SCHS Band Members and Families,

Here is your Monday Night Rundown (MNR) for the week of August 7, 2023:

Welcome back to school! What follows is your weekly MNR. This will help band members and their families plan for the week. We expect that all band members read and comprehend the information contained in the MNR each week. Some items will pertain to band members only, while other items may pertain to parents only. The goal and expectation for everyone to always be in the know.

This Week's Events on the Band Calendar:
  • 8/7     First After School Rehearsal (ASR) of the season - 4:15 PM - 6:30 PM

    • Please note that all ASR's will take place on Tuesday & Thursdays from 4:15 PM - 6:30 PM and will not be listed weekly on the MNR's unless there is a change in the weekly routine (i.e. schools closed on Tuesday or Thursday, etc.)

    • Attendance is expected at all ASR's. ASR's are a graded activity. No Call/No Shows will not be tolerated and will result in a parent/teacher conference with an administrator.

    • Safety and security of the band members is our No. 1 concern and we need to make sure all students are accounted for and accountable to the program.

ASR Reminders
This information was conveyed in class today (8/7/2023). Band members will need to bring a change of clothes for rehearsal. Band camp attire/athletic attire and athletic shoes are required. Please make sure to bring hats, sunscreen, a 64 OZ water jug filled with ice from home, a neck towel/cooler, and your instrument.

The first few weeks of August are very hot and humid and we have lots to review and more drill to teach so we need all band members ready for rehearsal.

Band Lockers and Locks
All members of the SCHS Band program have been issued and assigned a locker with a Master Lock Combination Lock. Band members have been asked to take a picture of their locker card for their phones and also type the combination and locker number into their phone notes app. Replacement locks are $10.00 and we ask that all band members use their locker to store their instrument and belongings. We also ask that band members go the extra step and use the combination lock provided to them to secure their belongings. The use of combination locks are not optional.

Band Class Fees and Online Statements
We are currently in the final phase of our setup for the band class fees statements to go out this week. Parents will see statements issued by Intuit QuickBooks. Parents can pay your child's class fees right on your phone or you can always send a check, cash, or money order.

Bottled Water Update
We still have several band members who have not brought their case of water. Each band member needs to bring a case of water (see the supply list that was issued in the band registration paperwork). We are two-weeks out from our first performance on the road and we need band members to bring in their case of water. Water can be dropped off at the end of rehearsals or dropped off in the main office of SCHS.

Private Instrument Lessons
Parents and Band Members - Please be on the lookout for an email/text sign-up for private lessons for the 2023-2024 school year. We are excited to have a great team of dedicated professional musicians to work with the band members.

SCHS Band Trip Meeting
It's time for us to announce the band trip destination for the 2023-2024 school year. Please join us for a very brief trip meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, August 15, at 6:30 PM in the SCHS Theater. At this meeting we will discuss all things trip related and will have some handouts for band members and their families.

Class Schedule Changes
We ask that parents and band member remain patient as we work through the new master schedule. We know that there are some conflicts with classes and band in the master schedule and we assure you that our guidance department is working tirelessly to make all corrections. Should you have questions about your child's schedule or possible class conflicts, we ask that parents please contact the band office via email ([email protected]) or text.

We kindly ask that parents not post questions to the Facebook Red Hawk Parent Page as we are unable to answer those questions (since we do not have access) and often times the information given and questions answered are not always from reliable sources.

Text Messaging Service
Need something - text the band office at 629-276-2558. Everyone that registered should receive the MNR in a text format, in addition to email.

That's all for now!
