SCHS Band: Your Monday Night Rundown (MNR) - Week of August 7, 2023
Good Evening SCHS Band Members and Families,
Here is your Monday Night Rundown (MNR) for the week of August 7, 2023:
Welcome back to school! What follows is your weekly MNR. This will help band members and their families plan for the week. We expect that all band members read and comprehend the information contained in the MNR each week. Some items will pertain to band members only, while other items may pertain to parents only. The goal and expectation for everyone to always be in the know.
This Week's Events on the Band Calendar:
- 8/7 First After School Rehearsal (ASR) of the season - 4:15 PM - 6:30 PM
- Please note that all ASR's will take place on Tuesday & Thursdays from 4:15 PM - 6:30 PM and will not be listed weekly on the MNR's unless there is a change in the weekly routine (i.e. schools closed on Tuesday or Thursday, etc.)
- Attendance is expected at all ASR's. ASR's are a graded activity. No Call/No Shows will not be tolerated and will result in a parent/teacher conference with an administrator.
- Safety and security of the band members is our No. 1 concern and we need to make sure all students are accounted for and accountable to the program.
- Please note that all ASR's will take place on Tuesday & Thursdays from 4:15 PM - 6:30 PM and will not be listed weekly on the MNR's unless there is a change in the weekly routine (i.e. schools closed on Tuesday or Thursday, etc.)
- 8/10 SCMS 7th & 8th Grade Band Parents Meeting – 7:00 PM (Reference Only)
Upcoming Events: Band Calendar Month of August:

- 8/14 SCMS 6th Grade Beginning Band Parents Meeting – 7:00 PM (Reference Only)

ASR Reminders
This information was conveyed in class today (8/7/2023). Band members will need to bring a change of clothes for rehearsal. Band camp attire/athletic attire and athletic shoes are required. Please make sure to bring hats, sunscreen, a 64 OZ water jug filled with ice from home, a neck towel/cooler, and your instrument.
The first few weeks of August are very hot and humid and we have lots to review and more drill to teach so we need all band members ready for rehearsal.
Band Lockers and Locks
All members of the SCHS Band program have been issued and assigned a locker with a Master Lock Combination Lock. Band members have been asked to take a picture of their locker card for their phones and also type the combination and locker number into their phone notes app. Replacement locks are $10.00 and we ask that all band members use their locker to store their instrument and belongings. We also ask that band members go the extra step and use the combination lock provided to them to secure their belongings. The use of combination locks are not optional.
Band Class Fees and Online Statements
We are currently in the final phase of our setup for the band class fees statements to go out this week. Parents will see statements issued by Intuit QuickBooks. Parents can pay your child's class fees right on your phone or you can always send a check, cash, or money order.
Bottled Water Update
We still have several band members who have not brought their case of water. Each band member needs to bring a case of water (see the supply list that was issued in the band registration paperwork). We are two-weeks out from our first performance on the road and we need band members to bring in their case of water. Water can be dropped off at the end of rehearsals or dropped off in the main office of SCHS.
Private Instrument Lessons
Parents and Band Members - Please be on the lookout for an email/text sign-up for private lessons for the 2023-2024 school year. We are excited to have a great team of dedicated professional musicians to work with the band members.
SCHS Band Trip Meeting
It's time for us to announce the band trip destination for the 2023-2024 school year. Please join us for a very brief trip meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, August 15, at 6:30 PM in the SCHS Theater. At this meeting we will discuss all things trip related and will have some handouts for band members and their families.
Class Schedule Changes
We ask that parents and band member remain patient as we work through the new master schedule. We know that there are some conflicts with classes and band in the master schedule and we assure you that our guidance department is working tirelessly to make all corrections. Should you have questions about your child's schedule or possible class conflicts, we ask that parents please contact the band office via email ([email protected]) or text.
We kindly ask that parents not post questions to the Facebook Red Hawk Parent Page as we are unable to answer those questions (since we do not have access) and often times the information given and questions answered are not always from reliable sources.
Text Messaging Service
Need something - text the band office at 629-276-2558. Everyone that registered should receive the MNR in a text format, in addition to email.
That's all for now!

SCHS Band - The Final MNR: May 22, 2023
Good Evening SCHS Band Members and Families,
Here is your Final Monday Night Rundown (MNR) for the week of May 22:
We want to take a moment to express our sincere thank you to the entire band family, and to the SCHS Faculty, Staff, and Administration for all the love and support that went into making the 2022-2023 band season and school year a success. It truly takes a village to give all of these band members the very best experience possible. We wish everyone a restful and safe summer break.
On a more personal note . . . It is hard to imagine this but this week marks the end of not only this school year . . . but also 10 years of the SCHS Band. As one of the most visible, youth-centered organizations on our campus, there are no words to describe looking back at a decade of service to our school and Smyrna community.
While next year will be a year to reflect on the foundations that built the band program at Stewarts Creek High School, it will also be an opportunity to shape the next decade for the band program and for the students and families that will become part of an even bigger band family of present members and past alumni band families.
We look forward to next year and the decade to come.

SCHS Band Class Fees - May Update: $1,700 Left Outstanding
Attention Band Parents - We have just $1,700 left outstanding in class fees. We have this down to eleven families who have a remaining balance. We have two families who have agreed to be anonymous supporters. We are looking for a few more.
We cannot end the school year with a negative balance. One of the great things about the Stewarts Creek High School Band has been the One Team Model. It's what governs everything about our school culture. This means that we all support one another in good times and especially in times of struggle.
If you are able to give and to offer assistance to these families in need, it would be greatly appreciated. We keep everything anonymous.
We know that this is a heavy ask and we appreciate your consideration as we continue to create opportunities for these deserving band members to have a high-quality music education and to help shape the future of America's up and coming leaders through participation in the SCHS Band Program.

Attention Band Parents - We have just $4,600 left outstanding in class fees. We need all families who have a remaining balance to please send money, or click the link from the statements that were issued last week.
We simply cannot end the year with a deficit of $4,600. We still have bills to pay from the spring concert music, jazz band music, percussion ensemble music, awards, food for the students for graduation, bus transportation, and a few other end of they year bills that must be paid.
For families with a balance, please contact the band office if you need to make arrangements. A few parents have reached out to ask about making additional donations to the band program to help offset this deficit. Any help is appreciated.
Graduation Performance - Friday May 12, 2023
We are excited to serve Stewarts Creek High School by providing live music for the Commencement Exercises this Friday, May 12, 2023 at the MTSU Murphy Center. The 10th and 11th grade members of the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, along with selected 10th and 11th grade members of the Percussion Class will meet in the band room during ICU for an extended dress rehearsal. Following our rehearsal, the band members will be fed and will change into concert attire. We will depart via RCS school buses to MTSU's Murphy Center. Please click the link below to access the gig sheet which contains more information.
Absences from School and Notification Policy
Just a friendly reminder that we ask students to notify us via text message if they are going to be absent from school. This helps us to ensure accurate attendance records for all the band members and is also a soft job skill that we are trying to teach students so that they will be successful in their communication skills with their future college or workforce professionalism.

It was great to see so many parents, friends, family, and alumni at these performances. We could not have done this without the support of all the band families, our feeder school directors, our private lesson staff, and our SCHS administration who believe that a great school deserves a great band program. We are truly blessed!
