LET II A

Overview:   JROTC is foremost a leadership and character development course of study.  All JROTC activities will focus on six Core Abilities which will develop and enhance cadets as they progress through all classes and extra-curricular activities.  They are:

-    Take responsibility for your actions and choices
-    Treat self and others with respect
-    Apply critical thinking techniques
-    Communicate using verbal, non-verbal, visual and written techniques 
-    Do your share as a good citizen in your school, community, country, and the world
-    Build your capacity for life-long learning

This year we are going to a 4 x 4 Block Schedule, which will double our instruction time from previous years.  Therefore, we will be able to offer JROTC mandatory and elective classes in the fall semester and TN State required subjects such as Wellness, Government, and Personal Finance in the spring semester.  To achieve the maximum benefit, cadets should become involved in as many teams and activities as possible as they serve to multiply the effects of the lessons learned in classroom study.  Activities become the learning laboratory to practically apply these lessons.

Grading:  We will average up to three academic lessons per week.  Thursdays and Fridays will be reserved for uniform wear/inspections, PT and labs.    Each lesson will consist of learning activities to include Exercises, Quizzes and Assessments.  LET (Leadership, Education, and Training) level 1-4 grading categories are as follows:

-    Coursework will include worksheets, and other assigned tasks for 30% of the overall grade.  
-    Tests include chapter tests, quizzes, and Cadet Challenge for 20% of the overall grade.
-    Participation grade will include physical training and uniform inspections for 30% of the overall grade.  Cadets not in uniform, without an advanced excusal, will receive a zero that will count toward the inspection average.  These students will have the following Monday, or the next available class, to make up missed uniform inspections. 
-    Performance grades are worth 20 % of a cadet’s final grade.  This is mostly a subjective grade that includes an evaluation of completion of assigned leadership tasks and performance for leadership position.
