Studio 103: Guitar Class
Welcome to Stewarts Creek High School's Guitar Class Page

- We do have class guitars (steel-string acoustic) available for guitar class.
- Instruments may not be checked out at this time.
- Students will get the opportunity to also use electric guitars and electric bass guitars.
- Students are welcome to bring in their own guitars for class.
- Need strings? Let Ms. D know and she will be happy to fix your guitar for free for you!

Guitar 1
Course Objectives:
1. To tune the guitar properly using relative tuning and a tuner.
2. To read music including the following aspects:
a. Standard notation
b. Chord symbols/charts
c. Tablature
3. To perform music using proper guitar technique (fingering, posture, hand position, etc.)
4. To perform standard guitar literature both independently and with a group
Course Outline:
1. Introductory Elements:
- holding the guitar, right- and left-hand positions, the pick, tuning the guitar, string and fret identification
2. Music notation notes in 1st position, notes of the first 4 strings
3. Basic Chord Patterns Chords in the Keys of
- C Major, G Major, D Major, A Major, and E Major Chords, A Minor, E Minor
4. Strumming Patterns and Chords in Literature
5. 12-Bar Blues
6. Songwriting
- including a field trip to the Country Music Hall of Fame to participate in their Words and Music program. See the Studio 103: Songwriting page for more info.
Guitar II
Course Objectives:
To continue the developing of skills discovered in Guitar I including:
1.) Notes of all 6 strings
2.) Barre chords
3.) Power chords
3.) Music of other genres
4.) Ensemble playing
5.) Songwriting
