This Week's Events on the Band Calendar: 

For students who were selected for the MTSBOA Mid-State Bands, we have created an info packet for parents and students to read regarding the weekend. All rehearsals and concerts will take place at SCHS. Please refer to the info packet for times and locations on campus. The student registration fee is $35.00 and checks should be made payable to SCHS Band.

 

 

We still have a few band members who did not turn in the Spring Semester Calendar Conflict Form. This was for a grade. Those members who have not turned in their form will be placed on the ICU list. If you need an extra conflict form, please click the link below. This signed form by parents and students was due to the band office last Friday, January 13, 2023.

 

Just a friendly reminder that we ask students to notify us via text message if they are going to be absent from school. This helps us to ensure accurate attendance records for all the band members and is also a soft job skill that we are trying to teach students so that they will be successful in their communication skills with their future college or workforce professionalism.

 

 

We hope that the recent time off has been rewarding and relaxing (unless you were traveling by air . . .we will leave that one alone). We hope that everyone has had a great start to 2023. The band members have wasted no time. Each class is in the middle of reading literature for our upcoming concerts this semester. We hope to see you at our next performance.

For everyone's convenience and planning, we have also posted the dates for band camp this coming July. If you have already subscribed to the band calendar with your mobile device, the dates are already posted. If you have not subscribed, we encourage you to do so by scanning the QR code on the form. All band members have been issued a pastel orange colored hard copy of this calendar in class (and it is posted on the players board for all band members to see in the band room entry).

 

 

Just as we did at the start of the fall semester in August, we have a conflict form for the Q3 and Q4 rehearsal and performance calendar. This form was handed out to band members in class and is pastel blue color. However, we know that even in high school, forms sometimes seem to vanish or as we hear that forms were stolen (as we know how incredibly lucrative the marketplace is for calendar conflict forms). We wanted to take a moment to say thank you to those of you who were able to make it out to the SCHS Band Christmas Concert last Thursday. It was great to see so many come out and support their band program. We look forward to performing for everyone soon.

 

This will be the last MNR until we return to school in January. In the meantime we wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Joyful New Year!

• 12/6    Concert/Symphonic Band ASR for Christmas Concert – 3:45 PM – 5:30 PM
• 12/7    Wind Ensemble ASR for Christmas Concert – 3:45 PM – 5:30 PM
• 12/8    SCHS Band Christmas Concert – 7:00 PM – Call Time 5:30 PM
• 12/9    1st/2nd Period Jazz Band Basketball Performance – Call Time 5:00 PM

• No further events for Quarter 2

The combined 1st and 2nd period jazz bands will perform for the home basketball game this Friday, December 9. Call time will be 5:15 PM. Dress will be the black band shirt and blue jeans without holes. The band will perform for both the girls game and the boys game. Dismissal will be approximately 9:00 PM.

 

All band members will have an ASR on Thursday, December 1st from 3:45 PM - 6:00 PM. The weather is supposed to be very cold so students should dress appropriately for rehearsal. The Town of Smyrna Christmas Parade is always scheduled for the first Sunday of December. Call time for students will be 12 PM and we should depart SCHS between 12:30 PM and 12:45 PM. Uniform code is in full effect so we ask that students be clean shaven and that hair/fingernails are natural in appearance. Please see the gig sheet for more information. 

 

Additionally we will need parent chaperones to ride the bus (chaperones can enjoy the parade and will not march with the band). We will also need a volunteer driver for Friday and Sunday for the equipment trailer.

As we all take a moment to pause this week to celebrate the many things we have to be thankful for, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude to all of the SCHS Band Members and their families for the continued support of this band program. We hope that each of you finds some time for rest, relaxation, and to visit with friends and family over the break. We send our warmest wishes to each of you for a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving break!
